REVEIL is a collective project to broadcast 24 hour live audio streams tracking sunrise around the globe

Streamers at locus sonus and elsewhere arrange open microphones in a variety of locations from inner cities to remote rural areas - for curation as a continuous performance lasting one earth day

There are many ways to take part : you can provide a stream via a spare computer, a mobile phone, a recording studio, or many ways in between

If you have access to a nature reserve, artists space, computer lab or anywhere with power and an internet connection, you can take part in REVEIL. Streamers are now streaming from remote locations over 3G using Raspberry Pi's and solar panels ..     or you can use your phone

Right now I am listening to the self noise stream from Camberwell, S London : a flock of starlings shrieking under the drone of traffic and the roar of aircraft on the approach to Heathrow International, with the softer calls of woodpigeons and chickens from the coop in the back yard

GETTING STARTED

A good place to start is at the locus sonus soundmap. The map shows the location of open mics, with areas of the earth currently in daylight and darkness
The earth spins towards the east at 1,674.4 km/h or 1,040.4 m/h at the equator - meaning that the front of light thrown by the rising sun sweeps over the earth's surface at about 1 mile every 4 seconds - slightly slower than in the past
